A farmer from the Ventersdorp region has laid a charge of sewage dumpin g against the municipality.

According to Johan Bester, water in the area is so polluted that suppliers have warned farmers that they will no longer be able to accept products like chickens unless the levels of harmful bacteria in the water decrease.

Bester showed reporters two places near Ventersdorp on Tuesday where untreated sewage waste formed pools because the town's two sewerage pump stations were often not working.
